The Intaba Jam Factory was an initiative founded by the Izandla Woman’s Initiative in order to economically empower women in rural and peri-urban areas within South Africa.
In 2002 an old church on the Piketberg mountain was purchased and 10 women were given the opportunity to start a jam factory producing jams, preserves, chutneys and other delicious bottled products.
The Vuya Foundation was instrumental in helping Intaba strike their first big deal with popular retailers Woolworths and upmarket boutique coffee shop, Melissa’s. We have since exited from the Intaba project but remain supportive of the venture’s business activities.
