Norman Davids is a soft spoken young man who comes from humble beginnings in the Ceres farm district. His parents are farm workers in the Ceres area. When Norman attended the Ceres Secondary School the combined income in the family was approximately R700 a week.
Norman had a lifelong dream of becoming a dentist, but this dream seemed unattainable for a young man in his situation. After successfully completing his matric, he applied to UWC and was accepted. Funds however were a massive challenge. Norman requested assistance from Vuya Foundation and the Foundation provided Norman with his registration fees as well as all hostel costs.
