Success Stories

VUYA Foundation focuses on assisting those of our communities who need that bit of assistance to achieve their goals. These goals usually focus on improving their standard of living, completing or furthering their education, and helping other’s in their families or communities.

In our success stories section we will share with you some of the stories of those we at VUYA Foundation have assisted or are still assisting with recognising their dreams.

We looked forward to sharing many more of these success stories with you going forward and updating you on developments around some of the success stories that we have already shared.

Norman Davids is a soft spoken young man who comes from humble beginnings in the Ceres farm district. His parents are farm workers in the Ceres area. When Norman attended the Ceres Secondary School the combined income in the family was approximately R700 a week.

Norman had a lifelong dream of becoming a dentist, but this dream seemed unattainable for a young man in his situation. After successfully completing his matric, he applied to UWC and was accepted. Funds however were a massive challenge. Norman requested assistance from Vuya Foundation and the Foundation provided Norman with his registration fees as well as all hostel costs.

Testament to Norman's commitment to his dream he applied for a bursary and was successful and was able to complete his studies.

Norman's story truly is a story of courage and commitment. His commitment to his dream was evident and in so doing, gained the attention of a surrounding farmer in Ceres, who, in Norman's 3rd and 4th years, supported him financially as well.

Today Norman is a fully qualified Doctor in dentistry and is currently at a hospital in Rustenberg completing his community service and is keen to give back. We cannot wait for Norman to return to assist us, with dental care at the Oppie Koppie crèche.

I quote Norman when he says "Ek dra my sukses op aan my ouers, skoolhoofde en onderwysers en Vuya Foundation"

Well done Norman we are proud of you!
