DR. Norman Davids
Norman Davids is a soft spoken young man who comes from humble beginnings in the Ceres farm district. His parents are farm workers in the Ceres area. When Norman attended the Ceres Secondary School the combined income in the family was approximately R700 a week.
Norman had a lifelong dream of becoming a dentist, but this dream seemed unattainable for a young man in his situation. After successfully completing his matric, he applied to UWC and was accepted. Funds however were a massive challenge. Norman requested assistance from Vuya Foundation and the Foundation provided Norman with his registration fees as well as all hostel costs.
When Vuya Foundation came to know of Henry he was a student in the Ceres Secondary School. He stayed in the school hostel during the week and was to return home on weekends.
One cold and rainy winters evening Henry knocked on the door of his school principal and a Vuya Foundation Board member, Mr Ronald Balie.
Henry asked for help, explaining that he had nowhere else to go. Since Henry had started staying in the hostel, he had never returned home on the weekends. Henry, an orphan with a history of abuse, feared further abuse from his uncle and chose to make a bed for himself on the river banks near the school. This particular night the river had burst its banks and Henry had lost another place of shelter.

At Vuya Foundation our core business is social interventions with a focus on sustainable development.
The Foundation was born out the realization that any South Africans still face untold hardships, a lack of education and scarcity of both opportunities and mentorship.
To truly address this issue, a new way of hinking and doing is needed.
